Kaplan College Cincinnati Campus Launches First Associate Degree Program

Campus Expands by 4,500 Square Feet to Accommodate Growth with New Program

CINNCINATI, Ohio, Jan. 28, 2009—The Kaplan College Cincinnati campus is now enrolling for its new Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice program.  This is the campus’ first associate degree program since opening in May 2008.  Classes begin today.

The program is designed to provide students the knowledge, technical skills and work habits required to pursue a wide variety of entry-level criminal justice positions, including corporate security, corrections, law enforcement (additional police academy training may be required for law enforcement jobs), juvenile corrections, public security, private sector security or investigations.

“We are pleased to offer our first associate degree program in criminal justice and look forward to sending our graduates into the extended Cincinnati area to help fill the demand for trained professionals in the criminal justice field,” said Bill Bradford, executive director of Kaplan College’s Cincinnati campus.  Kaplan College strives to offer high-quality, postsecondary programs in high-demand fields.  Our objective is to serve the needs of our students and our community for many years to come.”

The 21 month-long program emphasizes hands-on instruction.  Students will have the opportunity to practice on the Fire Arms Training Simulator machine, which is designed to train students in decision-making when using a fire arm.  Classes will also feature guest speakers who work in the criminal justice field.

To accommodate the new program and student enrollment growth, the campus has expanded by more than 4,500 square feet.  The expansion will provide students with a larger library, additional medical assistant lab and criminal justice classes.  Construction is expected to be complete by the end of February.

The new criminal justice program will be overseen by Stan S. Worthington.  As program director, he will oversee the curriculum and manage hiring of program faculty.  Most recently, Worthington was an instructor at ITT Technical Institute for more than three years.  Prior to that, he worked as a project manager for Wackenhut Corporation, a security services company.  He served in the U.S. Air Force for more than a decade and the Indiana State Police for five years.  Worthington holds a master’s degree is criminal justice from Jacksonville State University, a master’s degree in public administration from Webster University and a bachelor’s degree in education from Franklin College.

The Kaplan College Cincinnati campus is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT).  ACCSCT is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education.  The campus is a branch of the CHI Institute’s Franklin Mills campus, located in Philadelphia.
