Four New Degree Programs
Programs Expand Allied Health and Arts and Sciences Offerings
DAVENPORT, Iowa, July 28, 2010— The Kaplan University Davenport campus is now enrolling students for its bachelor’s degree programs in health care administration, human services and professional studies, and an associate degree program in human services. The four new programs are being offered in a blended-learning environment, combining online and campus-based classroom instruction.
The programs expand the campus’s allied health and arts and sciences offerings. Current campus offerings include associate degrees in medical assisting, medical office management, medical transcription and interdisciplinary studies, as well as bachelor’s degrees in communication and psychology.
“We are continuing to expand our campus offerings to meet the employment needs of the Davenport community,” said Mark Garland, president of Kaplan University’s Davenport campus. “These new programs will give our graduates the career-focused education needed to compete in today’s marketplace.”
According to the Occupational Projections, a report by the Iowa Department of Workforce Development, Research and Analysis Division, medical and health services managers are expected to increase by 15 percent and human service assistants by 20 percent between 2006 and 2016.
The four-year bachelor’s and two-year associate degree programs are designed to provide students with the knowledge, technical skills and work habits to pursue a wide variety of entry-level positions in their field of study.
The health care administration program provides students with a solid foundation in the core disciplines of health care administration and management. Courses focus on the principles and practices of health care regarding administration, management, law, economics and policy. Graduates of the health care administration program may seek employment in health care positions including care coordinator, account manager, practice administrator and case manager.
The human services program is designed to provide students with the practical skills to make a positive impact on people’s lives in many areas of human services including mental health, social services, education, rehabilitation, group and community work, nursing homes, court systems and public policy. Graduates of the associate degree program may pursue a position as a social service assistant, child advocate and adult day care worker. Bachelor’s degree graduates may seek employment as a case manager, human services administrator and child welfare worker.
The professional studies program is designed to help prepare students to advance in the professional ranks, pursue a new career or move into a new area of employment. The program helps students build their expertise across five themes central to the business world: creativity, research, socially responsible leadership, technology and communications. Graduates may find opportunities in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
