Kaplan Career Institute’s Dearborn Campus Launches Computer Support Technician Diploma Program
Program Combines IT Skills Development with Customer Service Focus
DETROIT, July 14, 2010—Kaplan Career Institute’s Dearborn campus is now enrolling students for its new computer support technician diploma program.
The nine-month program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, technical skills and work habits to pursue a variety of entry-level positions in the information technology field, particularly in network administration and computer systems support. Graduates of the program may seek employment in positions including help desk specialist, computer lab coordinator, office systems support specialist, hardware/software installer and computer sales.
“As technology continues to drive business and communication, the demand for trained information technology professionals continues to grow,” said Amanda Glover, executive director of Kaplan Career Institute’s Dearborn campus. “Our new program helps to meet that demand within the metro Detroit communities.”
According to the Michigan Occupational Employment Projections, a report by the Michigan Department of Job and Family Services, network and computer systems administrator positions are expected to increase by 18 percent between 2006 and 2016.
Instruction will take place in a classroom and lab environment where students can gain hands-on experience working with equipment they may encounter in a job setting. Students will be taught about hardware and software, computer programs and network systems. The program also includes a focus on developing communications and customer service skills.
The new computer support technician diploma program will be led by Robert Fugate. Fugate has more than 24 years of information technology and higher education experience. Most recently, he was program chair of the computer and electronic engineering technology program at ITT Technical Institute in Troy, Mich. Fugate holds a master’s degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s degree in computer information management from Madonna University.
The Kaplan Career Institute Dearborn campus is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS). ACICS is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education.
