JACKSONVILLE, Fla., June 14, 2010— Classes began today at the new Kaplan College campus in Jacksonville.  The Kaplan Higher Education institution, located at 7450 Beach Blvd., will help serve the community’s needs for career-focused education and provide local employers with skilled graduates in high-demand fields.

“The Jacksonville campus builds upon Kaplan Higher Education’s presence in Florida to better meet the needs of today’s postsecondary education students.  Kaplan Higher Education already serves Florida residents through our Kaplan College campus in Pembroke Pines as well as through Kaplan University, which has online student support centers throughout the state,” said Beth Hollenberg, president of Kaplan Higher Education Campuses.  “We are committed to offering market-relevant education so that our graduates are able to fulfill local employment needs.”

Led by Jason Watkins, executive director of Kaplan College, the Jacksonville campus opens by offering four diploma programs in dental assisting, medical assisting, medical office specialist and computer support technician.  The campus also is now enrolling for associate degree programs in criminal justice and computer networking technology.  These programs are designed to aid students in obtaining the knowledge, technical skills and work habits to pursue a wide variety of entry-level positions in their field of study.

“Our school will provide the community with educational opportunities to help individuals gain professional experience to compete in today’s marketplace,” said Watkins.  “The flexible class schedules give students the option to participate in a variety of career-focused programs while balancing work, family and other responsibilities.”

The college’s 30,000 square-foot facility features eight classrooms, four computer labs, three medical labs, a firearms training simulator that accompanies the criminal justice program and a learning resource center.

Kaplan College offers each student job search assistance through its career services department and tutoring at no extra charge.

The Kaplan College Jacksonville campus is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).  ACICS is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education.
