    Kaplan University’s Lincoln Campus Launches

    Four New Degree Programs

Health Care Administration, Human Services and Medical Office Management Programs Now Offered

LINCOLN, Neb., July 28, 2010—The Kaplan University Lincoln campus is now enrolling students for its health care administration and human services bachelor’s degree programs, as well as its medical office management and human services associate degree programs.  The four new programs are being offered in a blended-learning environment, combining online and campus-based classroom instruction.

The programs expand the campus’s allied health and arts and sciences offerings.  Current campus offerings include bachelor’s degrees in health science and associate degrees in medical assisting, medical transcription and interdisciplinary studies.

“Our new programs help create trained professionals that meet the demands of the Lincoln community,” said Teresa Hutchinson, president of Kaplan University’s Lincoln campus.  “By expanding our course offerings, we are providing students with more options to attain a career-focused education.”

According to the Long-Term Occupational Projections, a report by the Nebraska Department of Labor, Office of Labor Market Information, medical records and health information positions are expected to increase by 19 percent and healthcare support positions by 21 percent between 2008 and 2018.

The four-year bachelor’s and two-year associate degree programs are designed to provide students with the knowledge, technical skills and work habits to pursue a wide variety of entry-level positions in their field of study.

The health care administration program provides students with a solid foundation in the core disciplines of health care administration and management.  Courses focus on the principles and practices of health care regarding administration, management, law, economics and policy.  Graduates of the health care administration program may seek employment in health care positions including care coordinator, account manager, practice administrator and case manager.

The human services program is designed to provide students with the practical skills to make a positive impact on people’s lives in many areas of human services including mental health, social services, education, rehabilitation, group and community work, nursing homes, court systems and public policy.  Graduates of the associate degree program may pursue a position as a social service assistant, child advocate and adult day care worker.  Bachelor’s degree graduates may seek employment as a case manager, human services administrator and child welfare worker.

The medical office management program provides students with the clinical, organizational and communication skills to provide patient care and manage medical and financial records.  Courses focus on processing medical insurance, coding and billing, scheduling appointments and managing day-to-day office operations.  Graduates of the medical office management program may seek employment as medical administrative specialists in doctors' offices, medical facilities, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and labs.
