Kaplan Higher Education Launches New Florida Campus
PEMBROKE PINES, Fl., Feb. 17, 2009—Kaplan Higher Education has opened a new Kaplan College campus in Pembroke Pines, Fl., which began classes today. The school, located at 10131 Pines Blvd. in Pembroke Pines, will help serve the community’s needs for career-focused education and provide local employers with skilled graduates in high-demand fields.
“We are excited to extend our foundation for high-quality educational services, strong curriculum and personal approach to students here in Florida,” said Beth Hollenberg, chief operating officer of Kaplan Higher Education Campuses. “The Pembroke Pines area is an important community for us, and Kaplan is committed to offering educational opportunities in some of the most in-demand employment fields in the state.”
Led by Michael Mella, executive director of Kaplan College, the campus opens by offering three diploma programs including medical assistant, medical office specialist and computer support technician. The campus will begin offering three associate degree programs in medical practice management, criminal justice and computer networking technology starting on Feb. 24. These programs are designed to aid students in obtaining the knowledge, technical skills and work habits needed to pursue a wide variety of entry-level positions in their field of study.
“Opening a campus in Florida allows us to serve local residents who seek quality, career-focused training,” said Mella. “We offer a unique integration of curriculum with professional skill development to empower students to achieve their life-long personal and professional goals.”
The college’s 28,000 square-foot facility features multiple classrooms, which include two computer labs, two medical assistant labs, one medical practice management lab, one medical office specialist lab, lecture rooms, the Firearm Training Simulator room that accompanies the criminal justice program and a learning resource center for student research.
Kaplan College offers each student job search assistance through its career services department and tutoring at no extra charge. The Kaplan College Pembroke Pines campus is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).
