Kaplan College’s Southeast Indianapolis Campus Launches Computer Support Technician Diploma Program

Program Combines IT Skills Development with Customer Service Focus

INDIANAPOLIS, June 9, 2010—The Kaplan College Southeast Indianapolis campus is now enrolling students for its new computer support technician diploma program.

The program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, technical skills and work habits to pursue a variety of entry-level positions in the information technology field, particularly in network administration and computer systems support.  Graduates of the program may seek employment in positions including help desk specialist, computer lab coordinator, office systems support specialist, hardware/software installer and computer sales.

“The information technology industry continues to expand as reliance on computers and connectivity grows,” said Steve Allen, executive director of Kaplan College’s Southeast Indianapolis campus.  “Our new program helps create trained professionals to meet those demands in the Indianapolis community.”

According to the Occupational Projections, a report by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Research and Analysis Division, network and computer systems administrator positions are expected to increase by 23 percent between 2006 and 2016.

Instruction will take place in a classroom and lab environment, where students can gain hands-on experience working with equipment they may encounter in a job setting.  Students will be taught about hardware and software, computer programs and network systems.  Additionally, students will have the opportunity to develop their communications and customer service skills.

The new computer support technician program will be led by Kathleen Dickman.  Dickman has approximately 20 years of information technology experience.  Most recently, she worked as the director of information technology for Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg, Ind.  Dickman holds a master’s degree in science management from Indiana Wesleyan University and a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from the University of Indianapolis.

The Kaplan College Southeast Indianapolis campus is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).  ACCSC is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education.
