JACKSONVILLE, Fla., August 11, 2011— Kaplan College Jacksonville is now enrolling students for its new nursing associate degree program. The 18-month program provides a foundation in nursing education to help students develop the professional knowledge and skills to meet client health care needs.
“The need for educated nursing professionals continues to grow in Florida,” Mike Burkett, president of Kaplan College Jacksonville, said. “Our program offers hands-on, comprehensive training to help prepare students for positions in this in-demand field.”
According to the employment projections, a report by Florida’s Agency for Workforce Innovation, registered nursing positions are expected to increase by 20 percent and nursing aide positions by 18 percent between 2008 and 2018.
The nursing degree is taught through blended learning, which combines campus instruction with online coursework. On campus, students will have access to high-tech nursing labs with patient simulators designed to educate them on procedures and medical conditions they may encounter in a clinical setting.
Digital sessions for the students include videos, interactive games, flashcards, simulations and more. In addition, online discussion boards provide an interactive platform between students and their instructors.
Upon graduating from the associate nursing degree nursing program, students may pursue positions in clinics, private practices or related medical facilities. They also may apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN®).
The nursing program will be led by Janneice Moore, MSN, RN, who has more than 20 years of nursing and instruction experience. Prior to joining Kaplan College, she served as the nursing program director at Keiser University. She also worked at the Shands Jacksonville Medical Center for 13 years in a variety of positions, most recently as the senior director of nursing.
“The degree is intended to provide our students with an understanding of nursing and patient care fundamentals that should open up opportunities in health care settings throughout the Jacksonville area,” Moore said.
Kaplan College Jacksonville is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS). ACICS is a recognized accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education.
