Kaplan College LAS VEGAS NOW OFFERs AN
ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN NURSING
Campus Receives NLNAC Accreditation for Practical Nursing Diploma Program
LAS VEGAS, August 11, 2011 — Kaplan College Las Vegas is now enrolling students for its new nursing associate degree. The 18-month program provides a foundation in nursing education to help students develop the professional knowledge and skills to meet client health care needs.
The campus also offers a 12-month diploma program in practical nursing, which recently received accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), a nationally-recognized, specialized accrediting agency in nursing education.
“The workforce need for nursing professionals continues to grow, in light of factors such as the aging population, longer life expectancies, and focus on healthy lifestyles,” Rob Dillman, president of Kaplan College Las Vegas, said. “The hands-on, comprehensive training our nursing students receive is intended to equip them to enter this in-demand field.”
According to the Nevada Long-term Occupational Projections, a report by the Nevada Department of Employment, registered nursing positions are expected to increase by 20 percent and nursing aide positions by 18 percent between 2008 and 2018.
The nursing degree is taught through blended learning, which combines campus instruction with online coursework. On campus, students have access to two high-tech nursing labs complete with full hospital bed set-ups, a simulation control room and nine patient simulators, including the SimMan® Essential and NOELLE®, a maternity and birthing simulator. The almost lifelike simulators assist in educating the students on procedures and medical conditions they may encounter in a clinical setting.
Digital sessions for the students include videos, interactive games, flashcards, simulations and more. In addition, online discussion boards provide an interactive platform between students and their instructors.
Upon graduating from the associate nursing degree program, students may pursue positions in acute care hospitals, clinics, private practices or related medical facilities. They also may apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN®).
The nursing programs are led by Katherine Cylke, DNP, RN, who has more than 30 years of nursing and instruction experience. Prior to joining Kaplan College, Cylke was a nursing instructor and assistant professor at the University of Southern Nevada. She also has held several leadership roles at Las Vegas area hospitals including chief clinical officer, director of emergency department and nurse manager.
“There is a growing demand for nursing professionals throughout the state and our programs make it possible for us to educate compassionate nursing students for this rewarding career,” Cylke said.
Kaplan College Las Vegas is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). ACCSC is a recognized accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education.
