Bauder College Launches Nursing Programs
Associate Degree in Nursing and Practical Nursing Diploma Now Offered
ATLANTA, June 15, 2011— Bauder College is now enrolling students for its new nursing associate degree and practical nursing diploma programs.
“There is a growing demand for nursing professionals throughout Georgia. With these two programs we will help prepare our students to meet future employment needs and compete in today’s marketplace,” Dr. Charles A. Taylor, president of Bauder College, said.
According to the Georgia Long-term Occupational Outlook, a report by the Georgia Department of Labor, registered nursing positions are expected to increase by 35 percent and nursing aide positions by 28 percent between 2008 and 2018.
Bauder College’s 70-week associate nursing degree program provides a foundation of nursing education to help students develop the professional knowledge and training to meet client health care needs in a variety of settings.
The nursing degree is being taught through blended learning, which combines campus instruction with innovative online coursework. On campus, students have access to high-tech nursing labs with 10 patient simulators, including the SimMan Essential and Noelle, a maternity and birthing simulator, to be used in training. The almost lifelike simulators assist in educating the nursing students to attain competency in their skills before and during rotation into the clinical facilities.
Digital sessions for nursing students include videos, interactive games, flashcards, simulations and more. There also are discussion boards within the digital sessions that provide a platform between students and their instructors.
The 50-week practical nursing diploma program is designed to prepare students to pursue an entry-level position in the field of nursing. The program concentrates on helping students gain knowledge and develop skills in nursing fundamentals, geriatrics, clinical pharmacology, maternal infant nursing, pediatric nursing, mental health nursing, and medical surgical nursing. Practical nursing students are prepared for duties including direct patient care, managing patient care, teaching patients and caregivers, and participating as a member of a health care team.
Upon graduating from the associate nursing degree nursing program, students may pursue positions in clinics, private practices or related medical facilities. They also may apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN®).
The new nursing programs will be led by Katrina Walker, MSN, RN, who has more than 12 years of nursing and instruction experience. Prior to joining Bauder College, Walker was an instructor and department chairperson of the practical nursing program for seven years at Atlanta Technical College. As a nurse, she worked in a variety of hospital and medical center units including labor and delivery; intensive care; and critical care.
“A career in nursing can be very rewarding and we are now able to educate caring and compassionate students who are interested in helping others as a skilled nursing professional,” Walker said.
Bauder College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate and baccalaureate degrees. SACS is a recognized accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education.
